Raid Battle Events

The Digimon Card Game has something in common with Digimon themselves: it is constantly evolving. The same is true for Digimon Liberator, which continues to provide regular updates and a variety of virtual activities for its playerbase.
For many, Liberator's biggest draw is how it gives access to a whole different network of people to play card battles with.
Undoubtedly, card battling is at the heart of the Digimon Liberator experience. Given this, the addition of the new element we're covering today promises to be game-changing.

1. What's a Raid Battle Event?

In his year-end letter to fans, Producer Keisuke Kazuki alluded to new events.
One of these is the upcoming Raid Battle Event, which will involve a series of battles against event-exclusive NPCs.
This alone isn't too different from the standard gameplay in Lacuna, where players take on NPCs all over the map, as well as other humans.
However, there will be additional elements, one being the event-only "Raid Battle Tickets." These are obtained through gameplay, and once you have 10, you can take on the raid's boss NPC, the "Titan."
In essence, you can think of the NPCs as stepping stones to get to the Titan, the "main attraction" of the event.
Still, these NPCs can be fun to take on, as they only appear in the event. It's also a must for completionists seeking to fill out their encyclopedia.

Calling them "stepping stones" might also be a little misleading, since these NPCs can still wipe the floor with total beginners.
Nonetheless, they make good early-game opponents for refining your skills, even if the Titan is a bit above your level.

2. Titan Overview

As the event's centerpiece, the battles with the Titan naturally have some special rules.
After gathering the required 10 Raid Battle Tickets to get underway, you'll have the opportunity to play a different kind of match from anything in the ordinary Digimon Card Game.

Usually, players always play one-on-one, but here, you can also team up with one or two others for a two-on-one or three-on-one.

This alone makes for a vastly altered battling experience, but there are also some other tweaks to help the game flow smoothly.
The two most notable are:

  • - The Titan has 15 security cards.
  • - The Titan has an 80-card deck.

These drastic differences call for players to get creative with their strategies.

Adding to this, the best approach differs depending on whether you form a trio, pair up with a single close ally, or even brave the challenge alone. When playing three-on-one, the Titan gets a turn after each of you, and who gets attacked is random.

Although you'll have more chances to make attacks on the 15 security cards, timing digivolution and attacks will be more difficult.
Battles are closer to standard games when playing solo. The Titan's offense will be less overwhelming, but you'll still have to find a way to deal with its bolstered security and deck. It's wholly up to players to decide whether they prefer an intense single-player test of skill or the thrill of cooperating with others in an unfamiliar format. You might also find that your usual decks aren't optimal. In this case, you should analyze the Titan's weaknesses and adjust accordingly.

3. Participation Location & Entry Requirement

The Raid Battle Event is compelling since it's unique compared to the physical game or even other battles in Liberator. However, would-be participants should note that there's an entry requirement, albeit nothing too prohibitive. Lacuna has multiple cities, and you have to have visited all of those that are currently unlocked.

Since this is straightforward enough, anyone who has been playing on the daily should be good to go.
If you haven't done this yet, we encourage you to make a little push and head out to do some urban exploring.

The motivation for this requirement is linked to the choice of event location—Amethyst City, the Sky Spire Corridor, which became accessible to all players just recently.
If you visit during the event, you'll notice that the place feels quite different from usual, with all the special NPCs spread around.

It won't necessarily be the host city for future events though. They are scheduled to run frequently and also be based in other locales, such as Emerald Coast.
We hope you look forward to taking on the Titans of each city, as they will use specially themed decks.

4. Main Story Links

The event only runs for a limited time, but still features its own story, which is linked to the Main Scenario.

Although the best way to experience it is first-hand by progressing through the event, below is an excerpt from the introduction.

You are on a journey across Lacuna to track down the six Relics which grant access to the E.G.G.'s interior. (More details in TIPS 05.)
You have just arrived in Amethyst City, the Sky Spire Corridor. With this, you've visited all of Lacuna's cities, but you're still far from uncovering the truth.

The fog of mystery surrounding your quest has dispersed a little, but remains thick. Who can say what trials and tribulations lie around the corner? Such a quest won't be easy.

After just a brief moment's rest, a group of androids spring an ambush on you.
Just what's going on? They don't look like other androids you've seen, and you don't know whether they can speak.
All you can tell is that they're hostile and aggressive.

What did you do to invoke their wrath? It's unclear what they want, but maybe they're simply looking to ward off those who seek Amethyst City's secrets.

In any case, there's no getting around that they're your enemies—your first real enemies in Lacuna. You must take action. And so you take out your cards.

Your adversaries gaze at you unnervingly, rallied in great numbers before their leader.
You will have to battle for your life. If you get through this, you'll inch closer to the truth of the matter and to fulfilling your promise to Makina.

What did you think? Although a new addition, we believe the Raid Battle Event will be vital to getting players fully immersed in Digimon Liberator.

If you're concerned about it being time-limited, there's no need to worry—it will be repeated periodically, giving you plenty of chances to witness the story.

Until now, Digimon Liberator's selling point has been its combination of the Digimon Card Game with a VR experience, but this event finally provides fully unique gameplay.
We're sure that playing co-op will show you new battling possibilities, as well as enrich your adventure and deepen your ties with your teammates.
