Ruby Mountain, the Inferno Zone
The VR game Digimon Liberator is set in a virtual world called Lacuna, which has various landscapes and cities.
Aside from its regionally diverse playerbase of enthusiastic gamers, one of Lacuna's charms is its equally diverse landscapes, which blend the real and virtual.
This time, we'll introduce another such area: Ruby Mountain, the Inferno Zone.

As the name suggests, Ruby Mountain resembles a volcanic zone, and has a large settlement despite the scorching heat.
The area's most distinctive feature is its landscape of active volcanoes, rivers of flowing lava, and swirling volcanic ash and sparks—which would be extremely dangerous in the real world.
We've introduced five of Lacuna's seven cities so far, each with well-developed urban areas. Ruby Mountain on the other hand is not a city in the conventional sense of the word.
Rather than having a distinct urban part, it has settlements scattered throughout the hazardous volcanic zone, utilizing terrain such as caves and cliffs.
In gamer speak, Ruby Mountain fuses together "dungeons" and villages.
At first glance, Ruby Mountain appears to be nothing more than a dangerous place. But as this is a virtual world devoid of real danger, it's actually one of Lacuna's most popular tourist spots.
Of course, Digimon Liberator players have been traveling in the real world too, including to foreign countries where the scenery can be totally different.
However, few people decide to travel to places where active volcanoes and flowing lava are visible up close, especially considering the safety concerns.
In Ruby Mountain, it's possible to tour realistically depicted volcanic zones and other such spots without the risk of harm.
Unfortunately, temperature can't be felt in the virtual world, so it must be left to the imagination to sense how scorching the lava and billowing air might be. You may even find yourself sweating.
The virtual world offers experiences and extraordinary moments that are impossible in real life, setting it apart from a typical gaming experience.
Aside from the magnificent scenery, there are a plethora of activities that offer endless enjoyment and enhance the area's charm.
Firstly, the settlements scattered across Ruby Mountain of course have NPCs, some of which run shops.
One place worth mentioning is The Scorching Soup, a ramen shop run by an NPC dressed in Meramon cosplay.
While you can't actually eat the ramen in this shop, you can enjoy a minigame where you run the shop part-time. It's so popular that players flock to the shop every day.
There are also a few small stalls selling food, drinks, and souvenirs, creating a festival-like atmosphere, which you wouldn't imagine given the volcanic location.
For players who prioritize in-game items, emotes that launch fireworks and emotes that cause explosions behind the player are available for purchase exclusively at stalls in Ruby Mountain.
Because these emotes involve flashy effects, players can use them to interact with others and liven up events.
If battles aren't your thing and you just want to have fun interacting with other players, then you might want to visit Ruby Mountain to get these emotes.
Additionally, at the volcano in the center of the area, there's a seemingly dangerous activity: jumping straight into the crater.
By jumping into the crater, you can access a special area, where you can interact with NPCs and participate in a mini-event to obtain commemorative items.
Even after the conclusion of the mini-event, some players become hooked on jumping into the crater—an experience only possible in this area—and repeatedly take the plunge.
Because such scenes are common, players who first step foot in Ruby Mountain may be bewildered by this overwhelmingly peculiar spectacle.
Apparently, there are player-organized events where participants compete to see who can dive into the crater with the most beautiful form...
Lapis Marine would probably be a more sensible venue, but let's not rain on their parade.
Contrasting with the treacherous terrain and the ominous-sounding name "Inferno Zone", Ruby Mountain is a lively and bustling area with people and NPCs coming and going.
So far, we've introduced the locations within the area, but as this is Digimon Liberator, we certainly must not overlook the numerous quests and NPCs for battling.
Compared to other areas, battles with NPCs stationed in Ruby Mountain unfold in unusual situations.
Battles are rarely fought under conventional rules; instead, they almost always feature some kind of restriction or special rule.
To give some examples...
- - Once every two turns, one card from your security stack is trashed at the end of your opponent's turn.
- - Digimon moved from the breeding area and Digimon that are played are deleted after two turns.
Battles take place under rules that directly affect the battle area or security.
These incendiary special rules are another thing that ties in with the zone's moniker.
The battles are designed for intermediate to advanced players, as they require tactics that differ from the usual Digimon Card Game, with fierce attacks from NPCs and forced usage of significant resources due to the special rules.
However, as mentioned earlier, Ruby Mountain is an area bustling with many players, so naturally, there are many advanced players accustomed to battling among them.
If you find yourself struggling or getting stuck when taking on a battle, consulting other players or asking them to help you practice could be an option.
Ruby Mountain is lively with battles, locations, and user interactions, not to mention Digimon Liberator's Main Scenario.
Normally, we would introduce some of the story, but will refrain from doing so this time given the dramatic events currently occurring. Instead, we will simply introduce a few related elements.
There are several important NPCs related to Ruby Mountain's story, and one to pay particular attention to is Tlalocmon.
Tlalocmon is a Digimon that rules over rain and thunder, so it seems a little out of place in the Inferno Zone, where blazing lava is flowing everywhere.
Why is it in Ruby Mountain? What is its purpose? Please visit for yourself to uncover the secret as you follow the story...
Moreover, in the quest-exclusive server that you'll visit in the Main Scenario, you'll witness the lava that's so prominent in Ruby Mountain cooled and solidified, transforming the area into a desolate wasteland.
While shocking events aren't unusual in the story, a drastic transformation of an entire area's environment is unprecedented.
Why would such events occur in Ruby Mountain and what happens within the transformed area? To find out is another reason for players to visit the area.
These points are key elements in Ruby Mountain's Main Scenario.
We hope players will dive in and discover the reasons behind the transformation, along with the adventures and events that await.
The Inferno Zone is an atmospheric place thanks to its exciting activities, battles, and lively user interactions.
To maximize your enjoyment of Lacuna's virtual world, be sure to visit this place at least once to experience its charm.
